I always say that chocolate cultivates connections. There’s something magical about gathering around a table, sharing stories, and indulging in the rich complexity of craft chocolate. So, I decided to open up my chocolate library—randomly took out 35 unique craft chocolate bars—and invited family and friends to join me in experiencing the joy of chocolate.
To make the evening even more special, I was blessed to have Dwight from Bathala Botanicals join us, bringing along some of his extraordinary teas. His teas added a whole new dimension to the experience, creating unique pairings that elevated the flavors of the chocolates to new heights.
We explored incredible chocolate bars from around the world, featuring origins like Mexico, Madagascar, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Hawaii, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Italy, and Costa Rica. Each bar offered its own story, its own terroir, and its own artistry.
Some of the crowd’s favorites included: Azu’s 70% Con Parchita, Argencove’s Pecan Pie, Cuna De Piedra’s Mezcal Reposado, Kesshō Chocolate's Mulled Wine, an assortment of Menakao’s bars (including their Madagascar Vanilla, Orange & Cranberries, and Coconut Milk & Vanilla bars), Honoka'a Coconut Dark Milk Bar, and Karuna Chocolate’s Stone Pine Bar.
Dwight’s teas took the tasting to another level as we paired the following:
Decaffeinated Earl Grey Tea: Its citrusy elegance paired perfectly with Menakao’s Coconut Milk & Vanilla bar and Madre Chocolate’s Passion Fruit bar.
Roasted Hojicha Tea: The nutty, earthy tea was a perfect match for Cuna De Piedra’s Mezcal Reposado bar and Karuna Chocolate’s Stone Pine bar.
Genmaicha Tea: With its toasted rice notes, this tea paired wonderfully with Metiche’s Cempasúchil y Almendra bar and Karuna’s Pipa Barrel Aged bar.
As we sipped tea and savored chocolate, laughter filled the room, and conversations flowed effortlessly. Each pairing sparked new reactions—moments of surprise, delight, and curiosity about the craftsmanship behind these exceptional bars and teas.
The evening was a testament to why I believe so deeply in the power of chocolate to bring people together. It’s not just about the taste, though that’s a joy in itself—it’s about the connections it creates, the shared experiences, and the bonds that grow stronger with each bite.
I’m so grateful to Dwight for sharing his teas with us and to everyone who joined in this celebration of flavors and friendship. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to gather your loved ones, crack open some craft chocolate, brew a pot of tea, and experience the magic for yourself. Trust me—it’s great fun! 🍫🍵✨
